Copyrighting Your Worship Songs......Should I?
I Got a good question the other day....this was my answer...
Although I am no lawyer and this shouldn't be considered legal advise
I have learned some things about copyrighting your music.
The copyright law is set up to protect artists and writer's art by providing protection from infringement. Once a work is created, it is legally copyrighted and it is advisable and legal to put the (C) symbol following the date.
Registration with the US copyright office, offers verification of ownership, in case of infringement. Copyright infringement as a rule is very hard to prove, and very costly. You will have to make a strong case that a person has had reasonable access to your music before it is proven. Most major labels, or publishers will not take the time to steal your work. However, what copyright registration may in fact do is help you prove you are the original author of a work should YOU be sued for infringement.
For example, Your song becomes a hit, and someone else pops up and says they wrote it, and you stole it. Copyright registration may help protect you from being sued.
Copyright.gov has some great answers...
To my knowledge I haven't had any of my songs stolen....although I hear a tale of being played on TBN without permission...but that is a whole other thing....

Great Site! You don't know me, but I'm a fellow blogger. Today I am trying to get as many comments left on www.thehalftimeband.com as a love note from me to my Hubby. He plays the bass in the band and is the site administrator. I would so appreciate you visiting their site and leaving a comment today, if you have the time.
Blessings,
