What My Daughter Teaches Me About God.
I have a 11 month old Daughter at this writing. So much of what has been ingrained in my life this year has been what she, through our relationship, has taught me.
1.) God is a God That Sings. I love to sing over her to purt her to sleep. Zeph 3:17 says that God sings songs over us just like I do over my own child.
2.) God delights in His children and He wants us to delight in Him. I love spending time with my daughter. I love it when she says "daddy" and laughs. It makes me want to spend as much time with her as I can. The Psalms say to "Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give You the desires of Your heart." I put on the ruff cut of my CD and my daughter bounces and dances to it. True delight. I love it.
3.) He likes to take care of His children.
Matthew 7-11.
7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
9"Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? 11 If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!
4.) God loves it when we lift our hands towards Him.
1 Timothy 2:8
I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing.
I love it when she reaches for me. Sometimes she needs help, but my favorite is when she just wants to be in my lap. I love it.
5.) Sometimes God has to hurt us to help us.
Romans 8:20
For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that[9] the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God.
This is perhaps my favorite scripture. God lets us be frustrated sometimes so that His glory can be revealed in us.
The other day I had to let them put an IV in her little arm so she could get the hydration she desperately needed. She has small veins like her mother. She screamed.
It wasn't her fault. She was dehydrated because she had a UTI and vomited for five days. We had to hurt her to help her.
God acts that way with us sometimes. It is the hand that hurts that we are not familiar with in our culture. But still it is a hand we can trust....
